Professional Background

David Rigdon has been with Taggart & Taggart since 2015.  His practice focuses largely on real property, land development, government affairs, and water law.  Prior to joining Taggart & Taggart, David served as Deputy Legislative Counsel for the Nevada Legislature.  Prior to becoming an attorney, David worked as a Government Affairs representative and Land Use Consultant for Nevada’s largest utility company, NV Energy.  He also has an extensive record of public service that includes serving as a member of the Reno City Council and Reno Planning Commission.  David is a life-long Nevadan and currently resides in South Reno with his wife and teenage son.

Government Affairs

David has extensive experience in government affairs at both the state and local levels.  He is registered as a lobbyist with the Nevada Legislature and has testified on behalf of clients at numerous legislative hearings.  David also has experience working in local government and represents several municipal entities throughout the State of Nevada.  David’s experience includes drafting proposed legislation, ordinances, and regulations for both state and local government entities.

Real Estate and Land Use

David assists clients with real estate transactions including drafting purchase and sale agreements, performing due diligence, drafting opinion letters, and reviewing closing documents.  He also has experience in securing land-use entitlements for proposed development projects and has represented developers and other parties at land-use hearings.

Water Rights and Natural Resources

David represents municipal water utilities, ranchers, mining companies, developers, and domestic well owners on issues related to water use in Nevada.  David represents clients in administrative proceedings before the Nevada Division of Water Resources and in appeals resulting from those administrative proceedings.  David also represents clients in negotiations and discussions with federal agencies, including the United States Bureau of Reclamation, regarding water and natural resource issues.

Litigation

David assists clients with handling all aspects of general civil litigation involving real estate and water rights issues at both the trial and appellate court stages.

Bar Admissions

David is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Nevada.

Education

David received his law degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and served as a member of the Nevada Law Journal.  David did his undergraduate work at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he received his B.A. in political science.
